Enriching and Enabling Programmes 

The Core Function of the Education & Public Programmes Department: is to offer multimodal programmes by utilizing the collections, objects, stories, exhibitions, commemorative days and other resources that: are inclusive, encourage participation, promote awareness, enhance knowledge and understanding, foster respect of human rights, contribute to social cohesion and human dignity.   

Aims and Objectives

  • Programmes that encourage life-long learning for our diverse audiences
  • Programmes that are aimed at fostering social cohesion and nation-building through intra and inter generational dialogues
  • Promoting Iziko and its collections beyond its sites through the Mobile Museum
  • Establishing strategic collaborations with various institutions

Iziko Mobile Museum Outreach: “Museum without Walls” 

The Iziko Mobile Museum is an educational outreach project designed to take educational museum resources to rural and urban communities that are unable to visit the Iziko Museums.   Iziko Mobile Museum Outreach programmes are free of charge, but have to be booked two months in advance.

Public Programmes

The Public Programmes offered at Iziko encourage debates, discussions and inter-generational dialogues.  The programmes provide an opportunity for members of the public to participate in events and activities that are meaningful and educational.  We utilize commemorative events to reflect on our history and heritage and to create a space of engagement, wonder and surprise for diverse audience.
