FRIENDS OF IZIKO SOUTH AFRICAN MUSEUM VISIT TO CLIFT & SONS, PAARL

This trip forms part of our ‘Show and tell/how it’s made’ outings. We all see, eat, drink or use a myriad of items yet do not have any idea of how these came to be. This outing will give us a good idea of where granite comes from, how it is quarried and finally fabricated to give us the finished article, be it kitchen tops, cutting boards or tombstones.

Clift & Sons is a family owned and operated business founded in 1906 and still going strong, run by the fourth generation offspring of the founder. They have their own granite quarry at Paarl, ‘mine’ the raw granite and turn it into useful finished products at their factory in Clift Street, Paarl. Yes, they are important enough in Paarl to warrant a street being named for them.

After the tour we will head for Laborie, a beautiful, historical family owned wine farm very close to Clifts, to Cucina di Giovanni Paarl, an Italian style eatery on the farm for lunch which is optional and for your own account.
