Unleash your creativity

Join Iziko Education and Public Programmes’ Art Education department for a week-long series of one-day workshops for art enthusiasts who wish to explore our art galleries and learn more about art history, theory and art-making.

These workshops will look at the Iziko South African National Gallery exhibition, Objects in the Tide of Times: Celebrating our permanent collections, with a focus on certain themes. Venue: Iziko South African National Gallery and Annexe, St John’s Road, Gardens Cost: R50 Age: 14 years and up; FET and tertiary students. Book by 26 June 2013.

Monday, 1 July
Theme: ‘Printmaking and works on paper’ or ‘Satire in artworks in the collections’. From this
analysis, a personal artwork will be produced which can be finished at one’s own time.
Time: 10h00 – 15h00. Book by 26 June 2013.

Tuesday, 2 July
Theme: ‘Some interesting British artworks in the collection’ or ‘The formal aspects of the
New Group that make it decidedly different to the Academic tradition that was introduced
into South African art’. Time: 10h00 – 15h00

Wednesday, 3 July
Theme: ‘Early Modernism in the collections’ or ‘International links in the collection over time’
Time: 10h00 – 15h00

Thursday, 4 July
Theme: ‘Abstract Art and how different artists interpreted the formal elements in art’ or ‘Some
interesting objects and artefacts that tell one more about how people collect art to tell “stories”’.
Time: 10h00 – 15h00

Friday, 5 July
Theme: ‘History and collections in terms of the ISANG collection’ or ‘A theme and how,
by selecting works it can become an independent exhibition that tells another story’.
Time: 10h00 – 15h00

21 August 2013 – 14 September
The Difference Loom, curated by Winnie Sze of August Art Gallery, London. A exhibition of contemporary craftwork and visual art by South African and international artists,
and a day of cross-arts and cross-disciplinary talks by the artists, as well as those in related fields of fashion design and retail, cultural theory and history, textile scientists and engineers.
Venue: Iziko South African National Gallery and Annexe, St John’s Road, Gardens Age: Adults


24 August: A research colloquium relating to themes around art and technology which will be done in partnership with Iziko EPP, August Art and GIPCA. The details relating to the event will be posted closer to the date. Venue: ISANG Annexe 

An embroidery workshop will be run by Keiskamma Art Project at Greatmore Studios at Greatmore Studios. More details will be made available closer to the time.
