Still Life and Life Drawings
This groundbreaking exhibition by five collaborating artists titled Still Life and Life Drawings, presents the result of an intensive workshop during which the participants reflect on the critical questions of life and lifelessness, life and movement and the intricate dualities thrown up by these questions with which some of the world’s most iconic artists have attempted to make meaning.
This initiative is premised on praxis – the idea of intensely probing critical concepts in art and then to curate what is produced from the reflection. It is bold, both in scope and in its intensity, drawing together artists from similar yet different backgrounds and disciplines and allows them to work an intellectual and tactile process to create an exhibition that distils the essence of an intense deliberation.
Workshop participants, who are all considered to be at the cutting edge of the genres and mediums they employ to convey their messages include Dathini Mziyaya, Ndikhumbule Ngqinambi, Tazneem Wentzel, Thabo Pitso and the artist known as SaySay.Love.
This exhibition allows for the examination of notions about movement and stillness, which is essentially a binary, inferred and explicit, of the interpretive relationship between stillness and movement.
The artists have created works that broaden our understanding of the personal and collective journey within human condition which are essential qualities for understanding and relating to still life, life and movement and the intricacy of this duality,” the organisers noted.
