ASSEGAAIBOSCH NATURE RESERVE

The Friends visit to Assegaaibosch Nature Reserve last year was so popular we have arranged an outing in March. For those of you who were on this excursion last year do note that this one will focus on different aspects of Jonkershoek.

The group will join Cape Nature's Guy Palmer for a ‘Talk and Walk’ at Assegaaibosch Nature Reserve, just outside Stellenbosch, within the Jonkershoek Reserve. Mr Palmer will introduce the group to the history, topography, geology, flora and fauna of this 553 000ha reserve explaining the 'specialness' of the Cape Floral Region.

He will then take the group on a walk and explain some of the ecological complexities of the fynbos and its many management challenges which would include fire, alien invasive plants and Global Climate Change.

The walk will be on a gentle climb to an ‘open area’ with a view of the valley where it would be easy to explain the landscape.

From this point anyone who feels the need for more challenging trails will be shown the options to follow or you may prefer to bring a picnic and enjoy it in these beautiful surroundings.
